Amazon Pushes Retail Media Measurement Forward with DSP Update

22 May 2026
Amazon DSP Introduces Self-Service Retail Media Measurement Tools

Amazon Ads has introduced a significant enhancement to its advertising ecosystem with the launch of self-service third-party measurement studies within Amazon DSP. The update allows advertisers to directly configure and manage measurement studies from more than 50 third-party providers, streamlining access to advanced analytics and campaign validation tools.

For retail advertisers, this marks an important evolution in how media effectiveness can be measured and optimised.

Traditionally, sophisticated measurement studies, including incrementality testing, brand lift analysis and attribution modelling, often required extensive coordination between agencies, Amazon’s teams and external vendors. Amazon’s latest update simplifies that process considerably, removing a previous barrier to advertisers wanting deeper understanding of the impact of their activity.

The timing is particularly relevant as retail media continues to mature at pace. Advertisers are increasingly moving beyond surface-level metrics such as clicks and return on ad spend (ROAS), focusing instead on understanding the true business impact of advertising investment. Brands want to know whether campaigns are genuinely driving incremental sales, improving awareness or influencing customer behaviour across multiple touchpoints.

This shift toward deeper measurement is supported by wider industry trends. According to Amazon’s own Brand Lift meta-analysis, campaigns that combined video and display advertising achieved significantly stronger awareness outcomes compared to video-only approaches. Meanwhile, research from organisations such as the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) continues to highlight growing advertiser demand for more transparent and standardised retail media measurement frameworks.

The opportunity for retail clients is substantial.

Firstly, self-service measurement tools can dramatically improve speed and agility. Brands are now able to validate campaign performance more efficiently, allowing teams to optimise creative, targeting and budget allocation with greater confidence. Faster access to actionable insights means marketers can make smarter in-flight decisions rather than waiting until campaigns conclude.

Secondly, the democratisation of advanced measurement capabilities opens the door for mid-sized retailers and challenger brands. Previously, many sophisticated studies were only practical for enterprise advertisers with significant resources. Amazon’s integrated approach lowers operational barriers and makes enterprise-grade measurement more accessible.

There is also a broader strategic implication. Amazon continues to invest heavily in full-funnel advertising capabilities, from Amazon Marketing Cloud to omnichannel attribution and audience analytics. Together, these developments suggest that retail media networks are evolving into highly sophisticated performance ecosystems where measurement quality becomes a key competitive advantage.

For retail advertisers, the message is increasingly clear: success in retail media will no longer be defined purely by spend levels or visibility, but by the ability to accurately measure, interpret and optimise real business outcomes. Brands that embrace advanced measurement now will be far better positioned to compete in an increasingly data-driven advertising landscape.
